Smartphone way to report crime
SHAH ALAM: Citizens in Selangor will be able to report crime occurrences using their iPhones and Blackberries when the state police launches its smartphone application next month.
The application, named MyDistress, will enable the public to make reports through their smartphones, which will then be instantly sent to the police control centre.
This would allow the police to make their way to the reported location quicker.
Selangor police chief Datuk Tun Hisan Tun Hamzah (pic) said the police were always looking for ways to improve its performances, particularly in the speed of apprehending perpetrators, which was often hampered by the time required to reach the crime scene.
He said the smartphone application efficiently handled reports, which would hasten the officers’ reaction time in making their way to the crime scene.
He added that the application was also equipped with a Vehicle Tracking System.
Tun Hisan said the application would be launched in eight districts, namely Petaling Jaya, Gombak, Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, North Klang, South Klang, Serdang and Ampang Jaya – all of which contribute 73% of the crime rate in Selangor.
